Making music is a deeply personal creative expression. But as soon as you ask someone to pay for it, there is a debt to that listener.

The New Sheriff approach to artist development coordinates every facet of the product (the artist), while never forgetting the needs of the end user (the audience, or record buyer).

New Sheriff balances a nurturing creative environment with innovative strategic development.

The needs, and gifts, of each artist are unique.
New Sheriff helps the artist recognize, and then realize, their own artistic identity. Individual strategies are developed to achieve short-term, mid-range, and long-term goals. The plan follows the music and the music follows the artist's unique identity, all coordinated to meet the needs of the audience.

Creative exploration is encouraged in both musical artistry and business innovation.

Chief Creative Officer, John Van Meter, has worked with many of Nashville's most successful artists, including Kix Brooks, Ronnie Dunn, Pam Tillis, and Kathy Mattea.

He has worked with legends like Willie Nelson, Harlan Howard, Bill Anderson, and Merle Haggard.

He has also represented pop songwriting icon Diane Warren and mega-producer/songwriter R. J. 'Mutt' Lange.

He has been instrumental in developing the careers of rising stars like Sara Evans, Andy Griggs, and acoustic music phenomenon, Johnny Staats.

This spectrum of experience has refined his natural gift for recognizing talent, nurturing creativity, and inspiring excellence in himself and those around him.

The Johnny Staats Project

In 1999, Johnny Staats was the only new 'bluegrass' artist signed to a major label in Nashville.
Early in 2000, Giant (Warner Bros.) released "Wires And Wood" by The Johnny Staats Project.
Co-produced by John Van Meter, Ron Sowell, and Jon Wikstom, it received "Album of the Year" (all genres) from the L.A. Times. Features were also done by NPR, CNN, CBS News, Good Morning America, People magazine, the New York Times, and Paul Harvey.
